Geriatric Outpatient Clines (4 Clinics)

The Geriatric specialty clinics offer medical care to visiting aging adults. Specialists in Geriatrics provide comprehensive outpatient assessment and care that deal with any medical illnesses, psycho-social needs, endocrine and dietary needs, and rehabilitation. In addition, cognitive and mood assessment, preventive medicine, exercise counseling, assessment for dementia (memory loss) and depression are provided, and pain management is offered.

Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit

This unit provides acute medical care to older patients in need for hospitalization due to any acute illnesses not requiring surgical or intensive care unit services. These patients are then offered follow up care in the Geriatric clinics. Additionally, the unit offers educational classes to patients and their families on multiple topics of relevance.

Palliative Care and Pain Management

Being run as a national model in pilot phase, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, the World Health Organization and Balsam, the Palliative Care and Pain Management unit provides medical, nursing, social and psychological care for patients who suffer from incurable or chronic 111, illnesses that are no longer responding to curative medical treatment. The specialized care team will focus on alleviating pain in addition to providing psychological and spiritual counseling and support to the patients and their families, because every patient has the right to a life without pain and to the best quality of life possible against all adversity.

Long Term Care Unit

Widely known as the Elderly Care Center, the Long Term Care Unit at the Ain Wazein Geriatric Medical Center is composed of 3 single-gender wards that aim at preserving and improving the physical and mental health and psycho-social wellbeing of older adults in residence at the center on a full-board basis. This is achieved through day-to-day medical and nursing care by an interdisciplinary team of geriatric specialists, rehabilitation by physical therapists and ergotherapists, and social assistance and recreational services and activities assisted by a group of dedicated volunteers.

Geropsychiatry

In preparation to introduce a specialized unit for psychogeriatric services, four rooms have been designed and equipped according to national and international standards, in summer of 2016, to accommodate residents with geropsychiatry care needs, until the dedicated unit is launched.
